Pre-Conference Focus Day Organic ISR Assets for the Naval Commander - 25th September 2012
When it comes to providing the most advanced sensor packages and extended time on task, fixed wing patrol aircraft represent the pinnacle of maritime patrol capability. However, there are times when such aircraft simply cannot respond to the needs of naval commanders – be it due to distance from base, alternative taskings etc. The ability for commanders to deploy their own, organic ISR capability is therefore vital to ensure the timely and flexible provision of maritime domain awareness.
This focus day will showcase a range of rotary wing and unmanned systems that can be employed by vessel commanders, the tactics, training and procedures behind their use and feedback from recent operational deployments
Benefits of attending :
- Understand the future plans of multiple nations – in both the short and long term – as they look at evolving TT Ps and platform requirements to meet the needs of the contemporary maritime environment.
- Examine the effectiveness of rotary wing platforms in operations from around the world and how different mission sets are impacting the fleet.
- Assess how unmanned platforms can offer a unique and cost effective capability to vessel commanders and how these assets can help to compliment your existing maritime patrol assets

15.00 Panel Session Challenges and Benefits of Operating Organic Maritime Patrol Assets
- To what extent have the sensor suites placed on rotary wing and unmanned assets reached the point of diminishing returns? Are more extensive sensor suites required for these platforms, or is data management the primary limiting factor in current operations?
- How can fusion and dissemination efforts be improved for data gathered from organic platforms?
- For reconnaissance and intelligence gathering purposes, can unmanned systems be reasonably expected to replace their rotary wing counter parts over the next decade? What roles, if any, are likely to be transferred to the unmanned platforms?
